My story with food issues is pretty extreme. Back in the day I clinically fit the description for an eating disorder, but I realize that not everyone does. And just because you don’t fit that clinical description does NOT mean that you can’t have a problem. So, how do you know if you may have a problem with eating? I want you to take a second and ask yourself these questions:
- Do you find yourself preoccupied with food?
- Are you meticulous with your eating schedule?
- Do you prefer to eat alone?
- Have you avoided social events because there will be food there?
- Do you feel guilty after eating foods you may view as “bad”?
- Are you cutting out entire food groups from your diet?
And this one is a kicker:
- Can you see yourself sustaining this way of eating for the rest of your life?
Is that last one a gut-punch or WHAT?
I remember thinking about my eating habits and knowing that I couldn’t do this for the rest of my life. I wanted to enjoy foods. I wanted to go to an ice cream shop with my nephews and not have an anxiety attack over the calories I was about to consume. I wanted to go to cookouts and not bring my own food. And, I am happy to say, I am now doing JUST THAT!
